Alison Barne (Chair)
Alison was, until late 2017, a teacher and P4C Lead at St Nicholas Primary School in Oxford, now a SAPERE P4C Gold Award School. She been a trustee of SAPERE P4C since 2012.
Kay is a qualified solicitor with over 20 years experience in the field of company and commercial law. She is currently the Legal and Compliance Director for Holland & Barrett , a role she has held since 2017. In that role Kay leads a small team of legal professionals who oversee the legal and contractual risk and operational compliance across the Holland & Barrett group. Prior to this, Kay held a number of legal leadership positions within international businesses including serving as the General Counsel for Aesseal plc, and the Legal & Compliance Director Western Europe, Middle East & Africa for Avon Cosmetics Ltd, where she led on corporate governance, risk and group company operational compliance. Kay started her career specialising in commercial law working for the international law firm Eversheds. She was elected to the board in March 2020.
Jeannie read classics at the University of Oxford, graduating in 1978. She trained as a teacher and youth worker and spent nine years working in the special needs department of her local comprehensive school, where the question of why some children find learning easy and others do not became so compelling that she became determined to find out the answers.
Chris worked in primary education for over 30 years, including many years as a SENCO and 10 years as a Consultant Primary Teacher for Gifted and Talented Education, during which time (2001-2010) she designed and managed Rotherham’s Key Stage One Enrichment Cluster for children identified as dually exceptional. She also organised Rotherham’s Maths Master Class programme and delivered training and support for P4C in all Rotherham primary schools. Since accepting voluntary redundancy in 2010, she has continued working as a SAPERE Level 1 trainer. She has also been a Parent Governor and Vice-Chair of Governors and President of Sheffield Swimming Association.
Finia is a doctoral student at the London School of Economics where she is conducting research on internal controls and governance in the charity sector. She also teaches management accounting, specifically costing and budgeting processes, to undergraduates. Finia has several years of experience as a trainer and debating coach, including as a contracted trainer for the English Speaking Union, an in-house coach for Brighton College, and a creator of a debate training outreach program in rural Scotland. Finia was elected to the board in March 2020.
Jack Langley (Treasurer)
Jack is a finance analyst and trainee chartered accountant and tax adviser with experience in charity and corporate finance. He currently works in the technical accounting team at Barclays, where he specialises in providing accounting advice for technical accounting areas including tax, share based payments and pensions. He also has experience in UK corporation tax and external reporting, including preparation of year end accounts. Before becoming treasurer of SAPERE P4C in 2018, he served as treasurer of two small charities, including a community centre in Oxford, and has extensive volunteer experience with the Scouts. It was this experience which sparked his interest in enquiry and dialogue with young people. He has a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford.
Ivana has worked in the insurance industry for over 15 years and is currently Chief Finance Officer for Thomas Miller Specialty. Prior to taking up this role in 2019, she was Chief Operating Officer for the Financial Lines division of AIG UK, where she was responsible for end-to-end delivery of finance, operations, portfolio management and compliance. She has also served as finance director for the Global Specialty division of AIG, where she led finance, strategy and performance management. Ivana is a chartered management accountant and has a degree in business studies from London Metropolitan University. She has been a trustee of SAPERE P4C since March 2019.
Gina Pattisson Brusik
Gina has worked for environmental, sustainable livelihood and social causes in partnership, fundraising, and senior management roles for over 20 years. She is passionate about the wellbeing of people and planet, access to opportunities, and the power of dialogue. She is currently is Partnerships Director at Soil Heroes, based in The Netherlands. Gina read Theology at Oxford University where she also gained a diploma in creative writing. She was elected to the trustee board in March 2020.
Paul is the head teacher at SAPERE Gold Award School Bradway Primary in Sheffield and a SAPERE P4C Level 1 trainer. He became a trustee of SAPERE P4C in March 2019. After reading psychology at Manchester University, he trained as a social worker, traveled and worked overseas, and worked as an agency social worker before completing his PGCE at Leicester University in 1989. He worked as a primary teacher in the Isle of Man, London, and Argentina, before becoming a teacher, team leader and then deputy head teacher at Oaklands Primary School in Ealing, West London. In 2001 he became deputy head teacher at Bradway Primary School and, in 2002, was promoted to head teacher. During his seventeen years as head, Paul has been extensively involved in system leadership and represented primary head teachers in Sheffield at a city and regional level for more than a decade. He is currently Chair of the Sheffield Schools Forum, a role which enables him to continue to play a key role in shaping education policy locally. With his colleagues, Paul is currently working towards his vision for Bradway Primary to become a school where philosophical thinking is at the heart of all teaching and learning.
